Unbelievably, it is nearly Chistmas! My extended family will take up residence at our beach house to relax and enjoy catching up with all that has happened this year. It will be tremendous fun! We will of course be hoping for lots of sun, but as you will know that blessed stuff comes with an edge. In the article below we report the alarming increase in skin cancer. New research points to SUPERFRUITS...
The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) has indicated that skin cancers are increasing at a faster rate than any other type of solid tumour in the US (1.3 million cases diagnosed each year), and suggests that new ways need to be found to stop a skin cancer epidemic (Newsfinder 26 Nov. 2009). The Association also suggests that specific fruit extracts are efficient inhibitors of damage by UVB sunlight. The AACR research is reported to have shown that extracts of pomegranate, grapes and citrus fruits all acted to inhibit the kinds of cellular damage commonly associated with severe UVB exposure. Scientists said that the extracts have a greater beneficial effect when applied directly to the skin rather than when obtained through consuming the fruits or their extracts. It is for this reason that highly functional anti-ageing skin care products increasingly contain fruit extracts.
Snowberry's Chief Scientist Dr Andy Lavrent agreed with the findings. There has been growing evidence for some time he said, that fruit extracts have a strong role to play in skin anti-ageing. Acai Berry Seed Oil
One of the superfruits, Acai Berry from the South American rainforest, contains an impressive combination of Omega 6 and 9 essential fatty acids, phytosterols, vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids. The oil is also rich in anthocyanins (10-30 times higher than the anthocyanin content of red grapes) and phenols, it is also highly effective moisturiser for products intended to heal dry and cracked skin, eczema and psoriasis. Wolfberry (Goji)
Wolfberry or Goji is another superfruit, coming from a shrub found primarily in China. Wolfberry is rich in polysaccharides (amylose), Betaine, Zeaxanthine, Physalein, Ascorbic acid, Carotene, Riboflavin, Nicotine, Thiamine, Taurine, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin B1, and Vitamin B2. Wolfberry is remarkable for containing 19 kinds of amino acid, and K,Na,Ca,Mg,Fe,Cu,Mn,Zn,Se; 21 kinds of minerals and a concentration of Beta-carotene higher even than carrot, and the protein concentration is higher than bee pollen. Wolfberry is highly functional in helping to maintain normal cell growth and improving DNA restoration and repair. Found in Snowberry's Cellular Regeneration Night Cream.

Pomegranate
Pomegranate extract helps to improve the skin's microcirculation and water balance, which helps to soften and improve the radiance of skin. The fruit is also a nutritious source of protein, iron, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium, citric acid and tannic acid. Found in Snowberry's Night Cream.

Lingonberry
Lingonberry Seed Oil has the highest content of alpha linoleic acid among the berry seed oils, essential for proper skin function, providing anti-inflammatory properties and being a key constituent of skin cellular membranes. Found in Snowberry's face and eye serums.

Cloudberry
The Arctic cloudberry is rated perhaps the most nutritious of the wild berries - so valued by the last nomad people of Europe, the Sami, that theft of the berries stocked for winter was much feared. Cloudberry seed oil contains the essential fatty acids Omega 3 and 6, linoleic and alpha-linolenic acid, antioxidants, carotenoids and phytosterols. Ginja
A native of South America, the Ginja or Surinam cherry is very high in Vitamin C. and is a superior emollient with anti-oxidant and moisturising properties. Found in Snowberry's Lite Day Cream.

Strawberry Seed Oil
Strawberry seed oil is a significant source of the anti-oxidant g-tocopherol and is a valuable source of the essential fatty acids linoleic, alpha-linoleic and oleic acid (Omega 3-6 & 9 fatty acids), and is particularly valuable for products intended for dry or damaged skin. Found in Snowberry's Rich Day Cream and Night Cream.

Passion Fruit Seed Oil
Passiflora Edulis is a perennial vine which bears a fragrant, edible fruit from which this natural oil is cold pressed. The oil, which is high in Vitamins A and C, and potassium promotes nutrition and moisturisation of skin, increases skin softness and leaves the skin with a velvet feel. Found in Snowberry's Nourishing Exfoliator and Instant Deep Cleanser.

Pejibaye
The fruit of the South American palm Pejibaye, has been used for centuries as food. High in Vitamins A and C, the fruit is generally stewed for 3 hours in salted water although the pre-boiled fruit is sometimes deep-fried or roasted, or mixed with cornmeal, eggs and milk and fried. Occasionally it is made into jam. The fruit extract is valuable in skin care products for its hydrating, skin softening and UV protective properties. Found in Snowberry's Lite Day Cream.

Melon
Melon extract is rich in powerful antioxidants; Catalase, Glutathione, Co-enzyme Q10, carotenoids, vitamin A,E & C, Selenium, and Zinc....The extract helps protect against skin peroxidation and UV damage, and studies have also demonstrated a protective effect against allergen sensitivity. Found in Snowberry's Eye Serum and Exfoliator.

Apple
Derived from Apple, Galacteric Acid aids in protecting skins cells from lipid peroxidation. Found in Snowberry's Lite and Rich Day creams, Night Cream and Toner.

Hazelnut
Hazelnut oligopeptide is rich in arginine, proline, glutamic acid and aspartic acid, and is designed to aid collagen synthesis, stimulate the communication between fibroblasts and collagen, and the synthesis of epidermal lipids. Clinical studies have shown remarkable growth stimulus (167%) for human keratinocytes, the cells that produce the tough keratin protein that is the main constituent of the dermal barrier; and fibroblasts (157%), the cells that maintain the structural integrity of the extracellular matrix. Chaste Berry (Monk's Pepper)
